Wonderous Wigs and Waves

It had been a busy day at the Twinn Continuum, and Candace and Cammie
were doing the dishes. Because it was a fine late afternoon, they had
moved everything outdoors so they could work under the trees.
"I wish someone would invent Twinn size rubber gloves," complained
Candace. "This hot water is murder on my manicure."

 |
Cammie chuckled. "Let me wash and you dry, Candace. I'd hate for you
to have to re-do your nails." She handed Candace the dish towel.
"Thanks, Cammie," said Candace, as they switched places. "Hey, did you
get a new wig?"
"Yes, it is really Libby's," Cammie replied.
"And don't you forget it," called Libby from where she was sitting in
the peach tree, reading a book about birds.
|
 |
"I won't. Libby said I could borrow it for now. She found another one
in the wig box," Cammie explained. "This wig was in pretty bad shape
but it was made over."
"It looks great now," said Candace. "Where did you have it done?"
"At Ye Olde Wondrous Wigges and Waves, in North Wales, PA. I was there in
person," Cammie explained, as Randy came up with his wagon. He had
offered to transport the dishes back into the house. "I saw how it was
done," Cammie added.
"I would like to know how." Candace tossed her blonde curls. "Of
course, my wig is awesome at the moment, as usual, but I know how easily
we Twinns can have a bad hair day."
"Oh," said Randy, "Let me illustrate!" From his wagon, he pulled out an
assortment of rabbits. "Have you ever had a bad hare day? Come to Ye
Olde Wondrous Wigges and Waves and get made over, or maybe just have a
carrot or two!"
|
 |
"Randy!" said both Twinns. "That isn't funny," said Candace, even
though she thought maybe it was. "Randy, go nibble on some lettuce and take these dishes inside. Cammie, could you show us how it was
done?"
"Yes, I'd be happy to." Cammie nodded. "Hey, we have those two girls
who worked at the preschool. Their wigs are in pretty bad shape. Maybe
they would agree to be models for us. Libby, stop trying to build a nest and please go and get
them?"
"Sure," said Libby, who climbed down from the tree while Randy and the
girls loaded the clean dishes into the wagon. Soon Libby was back with
a Madison and a Kate.
"Hi," said Cammie. "Would you girls like to have your wigs re-done?"
|
 |
"See my wig," recited Madison. "My wig is messy. My wig needs to be
combed. Please comb my wig, please dont put me in the toilet again." She giggled nervously.
"Don't make us go back," said Kate with a wild look in her eyes. "We'll
do anything. Scrub the floors. Feed the crocs. Eat broccoli three
times a day... those pre-schoolers are worse than 20 fashion dolls at a shoe sale."
"Wow," said Candace, "I think maybe you girls better go talk to Kimmie.
It sounds like you need a transfer to another job."
Both Twinns nodded vigourously. "We do, we do!"
Libby nodded. "I'll take them to Kimmie's office and see whether we can have you re-assigned. Maybe some camomile tea to calm you down?"
Meanwhile, Cammie and Candace covered the table where they had been
washing dishes with a white cloth. "Here are some of the things you
will need, Candace," said Cammie. "A good hairbrush, a sturdy comb,
rollers, hair clips, scissors...."
Candace looked over the array of tools. "It looks a little scary."
"What we have found," Cammie continued, "is that it is very helpful to
have an actual Twinn head to use to style the wig on." Cammie brought
out an expertly designed wooden stand with an Ariel head on it. "I have
a good volunteer here who has been helping with the makeovers. I see
you are dressed up in your hat," Cammie commented to the Ariel head.
"Yes," said Ariel. "I thought I'd dress up for my photo with you,
Cammie. I am happy to serve as a model for other Twinns, but I do hope
someday to have a body of my own."
"I'm sure you will someday," said Cammie, resolving to look on eBay that
very night.
"So here is what we learned at Ye Olde Wondrous Wigges and Waves."
