The Case of the Depressed Kitty

It was a very quiet day at the offices of the C&D Detective Agency. Caitlyn and Dawn were out investigating the local grocery store for much needed Christmas goodies. Heather was reading her screenplay while manning the phones.
"Oh Rhett, whatever shall I do? wherever shall I go?" She asked in her best Scarlett O' Hara voice.

Skye was sitting outside on the step enjoying the hot weather with her shoes off and just chilling out. "Try it with more passion Heather." She suggested.

"Ok, let me see..... Oh Rhett, WHATEVER shall I do? WHEREVER shall I go? How's that Skye?"
"Um Heather, I hate to say this but....."
Luckily the ringing of the phone interrupted the flow of conversation. Heather dropped her script and picked up the phone, reverting to her special "phone voice".
"C&D, We solve mysteries chop-chop, cheap-cheap and real quick. This is Heather, how may I assist you?"

Skye listened one sidedly to the conversation which seemed to consist of "Uhu, I know, yes, the poor dear, what can I say? yes, uhu? OH NO! oh dear....."
When Heather had put the phone down Skye wondered just how much information Heather could possibly have gotten from the conversation. "It's a Twinn by the name of Virginia, she says her poor Kitty has gone missing. She says that it was depressed this morning and seems to have run away, she asks if we can please find it for her."
"Hmm, I don't pick up anything strange about this missing Kitty, which means that strictly speaking it isn't missing. I always pick up feelings from missing things, this time around I don't pick up any vibrations."
"Virginia is on her way here and will be able to give us a description of her Kitty and I am sure we can help her find it as soon as possible."
"Well, a bit of excitement won't go amiss, it's been a very slow week so far." Skye admitted.
Half an hour later there was a knock on the door and the Twinn came inside. She was a Madison mold and dressed very festively. "Good afternoon," She said, "Are these the offices of the C&D Detective agency?"

Virginia introduced herself. "Pleased to meet you I am sure." and then told her tale of woe to C&D's resident missing objects expert.
"My poor Kitty Lithium has not been himself these past few days, and this morning seemed to be even more depressed than usual. I tried to feed him his usual Kitty Crunchies but he did not seem to be very interested. I had to go to the office where I work as a call centre operative for the South African branch of S. Claus and Co and when I came home I could not find him anywhere. Can you please help me find my poor Kitty?"
"S. Claus and Co?" Heather asked.
"Yes, we co-ordinate the gift lists for Santa Claus you know. That's why I am wearing such a festive dress. We like to dress the part at the office. Unfortunately with my Kitty being missing I cannot go into the office because I am not cheerful enough, The Boss likes us to be cheerful when we talk on the phones, it helps project the right attitude to our customers. It's very important to have the right attitude in our business."
"I know, I can relate to that myself." Heather said.
"I am amazed that there is a branch of S. Claus in South Africa." Skye commented.
"Oh yes, we have a branch office in most countries, and we are very busy at this time of the year. Why, I can remember when I first went for an interview they said to me "Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus." It cheered me up immediately."
"Do you have a description of Lithium?" Skye asked using her detective voice.
Virginia produced a photograph, "I thought you would need a photo so I brought one along."

"I will get on the case immediately." Skye said, trying her best to seem confident. "Can you take us to the place where you saw your Kitty last?"
Skye and Virginia went to the apartment where Virginia had last seen the missing Kitty. "I have to find him soon because I only have the lease for another 2 days and I have to still find a new place to stay that will accept pets."
"Sadly those are few and far between. I am afraid most places just don't understand how important pets are."
"Do you have any pets Skye?"
"Not at the moment, although I am fortunate that I am able to enjoy all of my friends pets. My roommate has a black Kitty called Coalface and he is great fun. "
"I hope nothing has happened to my poor Lithium. I will be heartbroken if he has met with an accident or been stolen."

And so Skye took out her magnifying glass and started searching for clues.....

She searched near the dustbins. "Lithium likes to hang out near the dustbins in case there are a few fishheads available in them," Virginia had told her.

Then she searched the garden. "He likes to hang out in the garden, it's like one very big kittybox." Virginia had also explained. But there was no sign of Lithium in the garden either.
"Let me check near the postboxes, maybe he is expecting a consignment of tuna in the mail." Skye said to herself.

Lo and behold, there was the missing Kitty!

"Here is your missing Kitty Virginia. I found him by the mailboxes."
"The mailboxes? oh how embarrassing, I went to check the mail this morning and he came with me. But the gate was open so I put him on the utility box and told him to stay while I checked the box. I forgot to take him up to the apartment when I was finished. "
"No wonder he is depressed. I have just the thing to cheer him up. Come with me to Jennifer's place and he can meet Coalface. I bet he has a spare tin of Tuna to share with a depressed Kitty."

Coalface was only too happy to share a tin of tuna with a fellow feline. Virginia finally managed to find a place to stay that didn't have any quarrels with pets, in fact Virginia now stays with Jennifer Mae, Coalface and Skye. The poor depressed kitty is no longer depressed because he has a new friend and as many tins of tuna that he can open. Oh, and Caitlyn and the rest of the Tumbling Twinns were just as happy to have a new friend.
