Phew, it is windy today!

Miss Emily had not been out and about since her last foray to look at the frost.  Now she leaned out of the window watching the field and hoping that somebody would bring their dog along and throw a ball for it. Miss Emily was bored!

Her hair was awry from the strong wind and she was pestering me to take her out again but there were no real good photographic opportunities left.

“That’s no excuse”, she said “I want to see the trees and stuff.”

“You mean you want to mess around in the mud and lose your woolly hat?”

“Not quite. I have a new snazzy hat that needs losing instead.”

“The wind will blow that the same way as your hair.”

“I have a bad case of irritable hair syndrome from not going outside” she said, making excuses for her unruly mop.

I could see that Miss Emily was really frustrated because she was wearing her pouty face, although that is her normal look even when she is in a good mood.  The weather had not been great seeing as it is winter, but when the sun does pop out for a squizz the light is perfect. We had had a slight dusting of snow overnight and so I decided to take Miss Emily along just to keep the peace.

“What the heck; Miss Emily, grab your goodies, let’s go.”

Once outside we discovered that the wind was indeed blowing like mad.

“Miss Emily, you sit on the fence awhile and I will check what the mud forecast is.”

“Okey dokey,” she said, settling herself on the wooden fence.

“Phew, it is windy” she said, “I may just blow away”.

“I agree, it is not the sort of weather to be outside in.”

The bare trees were swaying in the wind, not too long ago they had had leaves on them, now they were like giant skeletons watching over the field

Using my monopod she prodded at the ground. “It is kind of squishy here, I would not want to get mud on my clothes”

“Neither would I, be careful how you stand though, if you take a dive into the squish I will remind you forever!”

“Nope, not today thanks.”

If anything Miss Emily was a splash of colour in the drabness of winter, she was well prepared with her binoculars, my monopod, her woolly scarf and her snazzy new hat while Shaun the Sheep was keeping her company.

“Lets go sit by the window for awhile, we can catch some rays.”

“Rays? this isn’t the 70’s Miss Emily, this is the 17’s”

“It is a pity that the snow is all gone though, I am sure you would have enjoyed it.”

“I would have because I have never seen snow since I was made.”

“That’s okay, I haven’t exactly seen a lot of it myself.”

“What’s it like?”

“It is beautiful Miss Emily, it makes everything soft and smooth, and it deadens the sound.”

“It sounds like fun. Will you take me outside if it snows?”

“Of course I will, assuming I am at home of course. “

“It’s a deal! Let’s go inside, I think the wind is blowing in my one ear and out the other side. Besides, I am playing poker with Dawn and I have to win my matchsticks back.”

“You are playing poker with Dawn? oh blimey, didn’t Caitlyn warn you to never play poker with her?”

“Nope, but I am really in the pooh now. I may have to hock my new hat.”

“How many matchsticks do you owe her?”

“Eleventy million and 34 I think. I lost count after 22.”

“Dawn has so many aces up her sleeve you will never win against her.”

“You mean she cheated?”

“She bends the rules occasionally. You must also watch your biscuits, she tends to gamble with them too.”

“Oh pooh. thanks for telling me, next time she has 7 aces again I am going to complain!”

“Aah well Miss Emily, at least it is only matchsticks that you owe her.”

“Well I had no more pocket money or biscuits left.”

“Miss Emily, no more gambling for you! Stick to translating from now on!”

“Yessir, do you happen to have Eleventy million and 34 matchsticks for me? I need to pay her back. She has a chainsaw and I like to have all my limbs in place.”

“We will make a plan. Come, let’s go inside.”

And we did.

Alas poor Miss Emily is not going to be playing cards for a long time, and Dawn has had a few choice words whispered in her ear too. No more gambling!

Return to the Park

Miss Emily had been hinting that it was time to go to the park again because she needed to have some exercise after her long winter hibernation. “Miss Emily, dolls do not hibernate”

“Well I did, Winter was soooooo long and boring I would have fallen asleep if I had sleep eyes” she retorted.

So I relented and the two of us traipsed up the hill to the local park. actually I did the traipsing, Miss Emily just kind of hung on. Unfortunately there were kids in the park which made taking pics awkward, so I was not to get all of the pics I wanted.

The first thing she tried out was called “The Collider” and frankly I have no idea what it was supposed to do. Miss Emily however knew what to do and she twiddled the big yellow wheel, causing the balls inside to  tumble.

“This is the kids version of the Large Hardon Collider“, she said knowingly, “I can create sub-atomic particles with this. now if only I knew what sub-atomic particles are!” she admitted.

Next on her list was the roundabout,  she really wanted to go whizzing around at breakneck speed but a munchkin kept on sidling closer out of curiosity and I wanted to avoid having her in my viewfinder.

“Gee, this doesn’t go very fast” she said, “how am I supposed to go flying off at this speed?”

She then tried a strange metal contraption…. it bounces and turns and looks very uncomfortable.

“Oh I like this goodie, we need one at home.”

“No we don’t!”

“Spoilsport! I am going to pout on the jungle gym thingey!”

“Miss Emily, you are doing it wrong!”

“I am? I was just checking.”

“Miss Emily, your hair is a mess. Where is your hat?” Miss Emily had a knack of loosing her hat, and never knowing where it was.

“I dunno, I could not find it, I think it ran away with the dish and the spoon.”

“That is what you said last time. You look tired Miss Pouty Face, let’s go home.”

“I am, I am. all this activity makes my tummy wobbly.”

and so we headed off for home where we will try to find her hat.

Miss Emily Can’t Sleep!

Miss Emily, the recent recipient of a pair of snazzy pyjamas decided that she really needed to try them out and would go to bed.

But sleep did not come easily to Miss Emily, she tossed and turned…

and tried different positions

to no avail.

“This is not funny. I cannot get to sleep.”

“Maybe if I count sheep?”

“1 Sheep”

“Bah, there only seems to be one sheep. I feel sheepish counting 1 sheep all the time”

“Nope, that doesn’t work either. What else can I try?”

Princess Skye heard Miss Emily tossing and turning and counting the solitary sheep and came over to her bed.

“Hi Miss Emily, what is wrong?”

Now Skye was a Princess from the Kingdom of Slumberland where sleeping is a national sport. Skye could do the 100 metre doze in under 13 hours, and had once slept though a whole episode of “The Brady Bunch” although that did give her an excuse to rewatch it for the 100th time. Skye loved reruns, but she was also a dab hand at sleeping.

“Princess Skye.” Emily sighed. “I cannot sleep. No matter how many times I change position sleep just doesn’t come. I have tried tossing, I have tried turning, I have tried with the duvet and without the duvet, with my arms under the covers and over the covers. I cannot sleep. It is exasperating!”

“Miss Emily, I have bad news for you..” Skye said gently. “You do not have sleep eyes, you cannot sleep, you will just end up laying awake the whole night and never nod off.”

“You mean I will never sleep and dream and wake up in a cold sweat having dreamt I was falling off my stand onto my face?”

“I am afraid so.”

“Ok. that solves that then.”

Skye was quite taken aback that Miss Emily was not too concerned about her bad news.

“But one question Princess Skye. If I can’t sleep because I don’t have sleep eyes, how is it you are such an expert and you don’t have sleep eyes either?”

Skye was baffled. “Do you know, I have never considered that. I will have to get back to you with an answer, let me go sleep on it. In the meantime you may as well use the hours when everybody else is sawing logs to your advantage. I find it is the perfect time to watch Brady Bunch reruns and old rubber monster flicks.”

“And to scoff biscuits and drink copious amounts of tea?”

“Oh yes, although I do dislike crumbs in my bed.”

“Thank you Princess Skye, I feel so much better now. I have some translating to do and a book to read, and then there is some research and some video’s that need watching. Wow, I can do all of that and then some!

So Miss Emily bid good night to Skye and grabbed her book, made herself comfortable and started to read. “Now all I need are some biscuits and a cuppa and all will be right with the world.”
