Palmietkuil South War Cemetery

Palmietkuil South War Cemetery commemorates mostly members of the Native Military Corps who lost their lives during and after World War 2. The area and the mine compounds were used as the main training centre for the corps during the war. There are 217 Commonwealth burials in this cemetery, with a further 122 soldiers remembered on a Memorial inside the cemetery. The cemetery is beautifully maintained and has a peaceful feel about it. It is surrounded by tall trees and its orderly ranks of graves makes one feel sad to see those many lives that never reached fruition.
