The Gurkha Soldier Memorial may be found at Google Earth co-ordinates 51°30’18.42″N, 0° 7’29.92″W. It stands at the junction with Whitehall Court opposite the main building of the Ministry of Defence in Horse Guards Avenue. It was Queen Elizabeth II on 3 December 1997.
It was sculpted by Philip Jackson, and the plinth was designed by Cecil Denny Highton.
The Dedication reads:
BRAVEST OF THE BRAVE
MOST GENEROUS OF THE GENEROUS
NEVER HAD COUNTRY
MORE FAITHFUL FRIENDS
It is credited to Professor Sir Ralph Turner MC.
Either side of the plinth lists the regiments where the Gurkhas served as well as the countries where they found themselves in. With a fierce-some reputation, the Gurkha’s have served the United Kingdom faithfully wherever they were sent and they were respected by friend and foe.
