Ferreira Deep Memorial in Selby

This was one of the first memorials I photographed all those years ago, and oddly enough I never managed to get revised images of it. The memorial is situated on a small island on the corner of Booysens Road and Trump Streets, Johannesburg; technically though, this area is Selby. Google Earth co-ordinates are: 26° 12.807’S, 28° 2.221’E

The inscription on this memorial reads:

Dulce Et Decorum Est
Pro Patria Mori
In memory of the employees
of Ferreira Deep Ltd,
who made the supreme
sacrifice in the Great War 1914-1918

RSM TK Turner was lost in the sinking of the Mendi in February 1917.
